Cost depends on the size and shape of the shell, site access, and any extras like heating, spas or paving. As a rough guide, fibreglass pools tend to sit in the middle of the market, more than an above ground pool but generally less than a fully custom concrete build. A quality fibreglass shell, properly installed, is designed to last decades. The gelcoat surface is what shows age first, and can be refinished if needed, while the structural shell itself is built to be long lived.

Fibreglass shells are designed with an integrated gelcoat finish rather than a tiled surface, so tiling is not standard practice and can affect the shell’s warranty. If a tiled look is important to you, a concrete pool may suit your brief better.

The process runs excavation, crane placement of the shell, backfilling, plumbing and electrical work, coping and paving, then fencing and a final inspection. Because the shell arrives complete, there is far less on site work than a poured concrete build.

Fibreglass generally installs faster and needs less ongoing maintenance thanks to its smooth surface, while concrete offers unlimited shape and depth options. Both handle Canberra’s climate well when installed by a builder who understands the local soil and frost conditions.
